As a strong proponent of education, George led the establishment of a mentoring program, known as the Engineering Success Alliance (ESA), at his alma mater, Bucknell University.

The program provides promising students from under-resourced high schools with mentoring and tutoring to tackle the demanding engineering curriculum and has served more than 150 students to date.

George's initiative in creating the ESA, along with his service as a guest lecturer in civil engineering at Bucknell since 1997, was cited by the Bucknell Engineering Alumni Association and the College of Engineering in awarding him the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award in 2010.

He was given the Department of Athletics Alumni Athlete Achievement Award from Bucknell in 2012 and was recognized by the university's chapter of Chi Epsilon, the civil engineering honor society, as the Civil Engineering Alumni for 2013.
